Roe v Wade: Draft Decision Revealed

by Your Evil Auntie

First, I apologize if any of this comes off as a sort of word salad. I am actually so pissed off right now that I am shaking and it is difficult for me to think as clearly as I’d like.

I’m sure you’ve seen the news already. If you’re anything like me, your initial response to it was a long blast of purple prose laced with varying degrees of creative profanity.

If you somehow haven’t heard about it yet, it appears that someone  with strong feelings on the matter felt the news needed to be released in a FAR more timely manner than the Court would have made its decision public. What am I talking about? Well, someone has leaked a draft decision written by Justice Samuel Alito from the United States Supreme Court that throws out Roe v Wade.

As of the time of this writing, the Court has indicated that the draft is real and they are now conducting an investigation to discover the identity of the leaker. One sincerely hopes they are unsuccessful.

As would be expected, the response to this terrible decision is shock and horror. Although no one should really be surprised by this development, as this is something that certain pin-headed, paternalistic, fuckheads have been after for the past fifty years. There are even thirteen states at this time who already have legislation in place that would make abortion illegal if/when Roe v Wade was officially overturned.

They must be fucking creaming their panties right now.

The reaction to this leak was instantaneous, as far as I can tell. Across the social media multiverse, I’m seeing images of coat hangers, Handmaid’s Tale-related images and memes, and other images that reflect the poster’s gut reaction to this nightmare scenario.

And what could be expected to follow this wrong-headed SCOTUS decision.

It seems that the so-called “Right” wing is determined to return women back to the realm of unwilling incubators. Or at least restrict a woman’s right to have intercourse with someone outside of marriage.

I’m not kidding when I say that.

There are many in that so-called “Right” who believe that contraception of any sort, short of the Rhythm Method, of course, should not be allowed. When you think about it further, you realize that this only affects women, because it’s not as though a man has to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant.

It’s a long-standing double standard.

With men, when they have an encounter outside of a marital relationship, they’re considered to be “sowing some wild oats” and it’s generally dismissed with a tolerant grin and a further dismissive wave of the hand.

Boys will be boys, right?

It’s no big deal, is the thought behind that.

Women, on the other hand, are expected, it seems, to be virginal on their wedding night. Restricting abortion is aimed at bringing our American society back to that paternalistic, wrong-headed, fucking Handmaid’s Tale way of Stone Age thinking.

Will it be long before there is a further delineation between the human rights experienced by men and women? I don’t think that’s completely out of the realm of possibility.

If you didn’t know it, in the United States, at least, women could not get credit on their own until the early 1970s. That’s only around fifty years ago.

Think about it.

FIFTY YEARS.

A further lesson you may or may not be interested to know, is that JC Penney was the first company to offer women their own credit accounts. Clearly that was to lift their sales numbers, but it allowed women to actually establish a credit history and thus be able to buy a car, a home, or some other high-ticket item that would likely require a schedule of monthly payments ON THEIR OWN, without a male relative’s almost unspoken permission to do so.

That’s not a small thing at all, when you think about it.

So, what other hard-won rights might women lose after this?

The aforementioned right to establish credit?

The right to hold certain positions in a business/organization?

OWN a business?

The right to VOTE?

And then what if it’s decided that one’s rights are further predicated upon their religious alignment? Their race? Their sexual preference?

It’s not out of the realm of possibility with the way the Court is currently made up.

I’d call it this a slippery slope, but it’s already feeling like a landslide has begun and only destruction and grief can result.

Don’t just be fatalistic and say nothing. Don’t be that “good German” who allowed the Nazis to take over their country and commit genocide.

Contact your state and local legislators. Tell them how you feel about this. Tell them that if they don’t do something about this abomination, that you won’t be voting for them the next time they sit for re-election. Tell the corporations who give them donations that you will no longer be doing business with them and will do without their products if they are the only ones who provide it.

They say money talks.

They’re right.

  1. It is a woman’s decision as to whether she will be a mother or not. Those who decide that the baby will live and be adopted are also making a decision to BE a mother, someone looking out for their child’s best interests and future. Roe vs Wade needs to stay.

    1. It seems as though most men connected to these situations run away so fast they leave skid marks and vapor trails.

And they get away with it.

  2. How about we have enforced vasectomy?

Better still, US Women deny US Males sex.. See how long that works before protestation!

    1. It is all so fucking insane.

My personal opinion is that if you don’t have the equipment, you shouldn’t even be able to make decisions on the matter.
