“The Onion” Made You Cry?
The Onion, it seems, has posted something about the Democrats trying to figure out where the midterms will go wrong. They’re a satire site, but some folks are really upset about them posting something like that.
Well, maybe feeling that offended might inspire people to actually do something meaningful for the midterms. Like, maybe vote.
For a fucking change.
MY take on this?
People will decide that their vote isn’t necessary/won’t count, so they won’t go and vote in the first place. This is how Hillary lost in 2016. So many people were convinced of her victory that they figured going out and voting wasn’t necessary. Then, people didn’t like how Kamala Harris laughed.
Oh no. A weird laugh. Whatever will become of our country if our head of state has a weird laugh. Better to have one who uses gross profanity in front of the cameras. That’ll show the world that the United States of America has class and gravitas.
Fucking idiots.
Fewer and fewer people vote in each election, and so this is the kind of shit we’re going through now. A somehow even more twisted version of Idiocracy, where the person “in charge” is suggesting part of the country be obliterated and that such a thing happening would only be a slight inconvenience.
You’d think this would mobilize people to enact change, but I guess it’s just too difficult to get off one’s ass to actually get out to ENACT that necessary change.
As for The Onion, you may have forgotten that satire is intended to encourage political change (think of Jonathan Swift’s “A Modest Proposal”), so instead of being loudly offended, get out there and vote for the candidate who best represents what you want for the people you love and care about.
